What is...?
What is Yoga?
Yoga is a Sanskrit word that means "union". It refers to the union of mind,
body, and spirit. The practice of Yoga in North America is probably better
defined as asana, a Sanskrit word that refers to the practice of
physical postures or poses.
The best understanding comes from experience. We recommend you drop in for a
beginner class and sample Yoga Within.

What is Yin Yoga?
The fundamental theory of Taoism is that all things can be described by
their mutually complementary Yin and Yang aspect. A Taoist analysis of
Yoga practice emphasizes the critical difference between Yin and Yang
tissues of the body. Muscles and blood are Yang, connective tissues and
joints are Yin. Yin and Yang tissues do not respond to training in the
same way and a student’s practice becomes more effective when the
difference is understood. Most forms of Yoga practiced today are Yang,
they emphasize muscular movement and contraction. By contrast Yin Yoga
targets the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Yin
postures are held three to five to ten minutes at a time. This form of
yoga practice would be used to complement more active practices, and is
a great aid for learning to sit in meditation.
The practice works with our energy body, clearing blockages in the nadis
(meridians) and increasing the flow of prana or chi, improving the
health of our organs as well as increasing our energy and promoting a
general sense of wellbeing.
